Tree Men (वृक्ष मानव) के नाम से मशहूर विश्वेश्वर दत्त सकलानी का दिनांक 19 जनवरी 2019 को निधन हो गया, 8 साल की उम्र से शुरू किया, उन्होंने 50 लाख पेड़ लगाए
विश्वेश्वर दत्त सकलानी आठ साल के थे, जब उन्होंने पहला पौधा रोपा। बाद में वह अपने भाई, फिर अपनी पत्नी की मौत का दुख सहने को पौधे रोपने लगे। शुक्रवार (18 जनवरी) को उत्तराखंड के 96 वर्षीय ‘वृक्ष मानव’ के रूप में पहचाने जाने वाले सकलानी का निधन हो गया। उनके परिवार का अनुमान है कि अपने जीवनकाल में सलकानी ने टिहरी-गढ़वाल में करीब 50 लाख पेड़ लगाए होंगे। सकलानी की दूसरी पत्नी ने उनकी इस मुहिम ने साथ दिया, अक्सर दोनों पर्यावरण संरक्षण को लेकर लोगों को समझाते। 1986 में तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गांधी ने सकलानी को इंदिरा प्रियदर्शिनी अवार्ड से सम्मानित किया था।
राजभवन में राज्यपाल के प्रोटोकॉल अधिकारी के रूप में तैनात उनके बेटे संतोष स्वरूप सकलानी ने द इंडियन एक्सप्रेस से कहा, “उन्होंने करीब 10 साल पहले देखने की शक्ति खो दी थी। पौधे रोपने से धूल और कीचड़ आंखों में जाता था, जिससे उन्हें परेशानी होने लगी थी। छोटे बच्चे थे, तब से उन्होंने पौधे रोपना शुरू किया था। कलम तैयार करने का हुनर उन्होंने अपने चाचा से सीखा था।”
सकलानी अपने पीछे चार बेटों और पांच बेटियों का परिवार छोड़ गए हैं। जब उनके भाई का निधन हुआ तो वह घंटों गायब रहने लगे, इस दौरान वह पूरा दिन पौधे लगाने में बिताते थे। संतोष के अनुसार, “1958 में जब हमारी मां गुजरी, तो यह दूसरी ऐसी घटना थी जिसके बाद हमने उन्हें पेड़ों के और नजदीक पाया।” सकलानी का काम भले ही अपने जिले तक सीमित रहा हो, मगर जिस सूरजगांव के आस-पास उन्होंने एक घना जंगल तैयार किया, वह तेजी से गायब होता जा रहा है।
